Mr O'Brien said: "It began with the defendant sending a picture of him in his boxer shorts and soon progressed to him sending images of his penis.
“As time went on the defendant began to ask her to send sexual images and videos."
The court heard the youngster was persuaded to comply with his requests for explicit material on messages and he began contacting her on FaceTime video calls.
Mr O'Brien added: "The complainant was truthful about her age, she told the defendant she was nine, about to turn 10. His response to that, chillingly, was 'nice'."
The defendant also told the child she wasn't to tell anyone about their discussions, which were 'our little secret'."

The tragedy is that the girl complied with her defilement at such a young age, it must be self-harm!
You can tell the girl hated this entire experience because she went to her mother with the concerns herself and— wait... the mother had to spy on her to find this out? Then had to interrogate the girl to try and get her to say what she wanted? Then when that wasn't enough because the girl evidently didn't want to tell, had to record a voice call to get anything substantial?
It's almost like the girl quite liked this experience and wanted to keep it a secret because she didn't want it to end or something. The most shocking thing they could report that he said was "nice" in response to her age; no mention of threats of silence, blackmail or bribery, or anything of the sort.
