we were discussing genshin impact characters and lolis especially. she suddenly went really aggresive and started telling me that "people who pay for lolis are just gross predators, pedophiles and incels, who go off of children and try to make pedophilia normal".
she's very stubborn and never really listens to arguments; it was never an issue before, but the moment she said that i got scared. she's not just anti-map people and pedophiles in general, but even angry at those who only like fictional characters, which is... wtf?
so i stopped talking to her fully. our r-ships have been crumbling for some time, but this was the final blow. i barely have any friends at all, nobody in real life too, so loosing someone, especially for such a painful reason, is just so sad.
why are people so antagonistic? this is insane. i don't even wanna imagine what she'd say if i were to try and explain her that its not how these things work.
have you lost any friends because of your opinions and/or sexual attractions?

I can relate to losing a friend from opinions, one of my (ex) friends said "trans people are a disease" and that they "can't support a suicidal group"
he was literally gay so i don't know why he's practicing friendly fire on his own community lol

Re: lost a friend
I've always avoided talking about sexuality with the people around me, and in hindsight, I think it was the right choice, not doing so. One of my first friends was clearly homophobic.
Even recently, I found myself listening to a conversation between two people I know, who were complaining about a third person because, in a video game, he wanted to play a minor character and everyone knew he would sexualize it. I sat there listening to stuff like: "Well, if he only hangs out with other minors... as long as he stays away from adults." (Just to be clear: we're talking about a videogame where only adults play.)
Anyway, I’ve never lost anyone simply because I avoid talking about anything that might cause friction.

Re: lost a friend
Usually I do hope to get into discussions regarding pedophilia in real life, because I feel this is the only way I have to achieve at least a direct (although minuscule) impact on society.
Until now I got into that with relatives and a couple of friends. Most of the times I'm the one who rages out.
The relations were not affected (yet) by the discussions, but at least in one case I ended up very, very saddened - and the effect is still lasting. So, even if I'm acting the other way around, I understand the reasons of Not Forever not to engage in such conversations.

When society judges without understanding, it silences hearts that yearn for connection.
