This appeared to be a lesbian relationship involving a teen, most probably consensual. People are up in arms and calling for pitchforks and dancing around the bonfire, but not the people who knew the perp, apparently!

This story reminds me of a historical case that was very community and church - linked. The community "rallied behind" the accused, even after he was found guilty. Similar to the above story, there was plenty of prior knowledge of the accused among parents and community figureheads.
