I speak, of course, of the word “kink,” a term that has enjoyed explosive popularity in recent years as its usefulness to the Left has increased.

During the not-memorably-prudish ’90s, the word “kink” appeared in 65 New York Times articles in a sexual context. Over the last 10 years, that rate has nearly tripled. (Other papers’ data are similar.) Browsers of the internet have responded accordingly, more than quadrupling the term’s search frequency since the birth of Google Trends in 2004. Yes, “kink” is having a moment. The question is whether progressives can use it to attain yet another culture war victory.

It is typically here that the Left begins to howl its outrage: “How dare you suggest that we want legalized pedophilia!” Yet as readers of this article have already been reminded, Democrats said the same thing about gay marriage. Furthermore, the logic of “kink” is inexorable. Give it an inch, and it will take a mile. Already, pedophilia is being discussed in some circles as a “sexual orientation.” So-called minor-attracted persons are the beneficiaries, now, of a softening euphemism. Though we are unlikely, this decade, to see a prime-time television host confess his “kink” of partnering with children, that whisper is audible online and abroad. To be sure, multiculturalism will stoke the engine. (Isn’t it racist to deny an Afghan his bacha bazi — literally “boy play”?) Here in America, however, “kink” will drive the car. Having persuaded us of kink’s essential normality, the Left will expand its borders until nothing remains outside. That is what the “progress” in “progressive” is all about.

This kind of rhetoric can only be persuasive to the general public when it's underlying principles are selectively applied.

The issue of gay marriage can easily be explained by the fact that it was politically expedient to oppose it at one point and support it at another (or are we likewise going to pretend there's some deep mystery as to why Bush was hawkish on foreign policy and Trump wasn't?). When is it ever politically expedient to support MAPs? How many politicians have ever even used the term "MAPs"?

The genie is out of the bottle, all they have left is people's disgust about sexuality; other than that they may as well be trying resurrect feudalism, it's so disconnected from modern culture. I don't necessarily have a problem with religion, but it's dishonest how selective they're being; being religious doesn't mean you get to pick and choose what makes you comfortable while leaving behind what makes you uncomfortable. If I was religious I wouldn't want to change the laws of a country, if the majority of people who wanted the change were motivated by the wrong reasons.

A Republican state representative in New Hampshire has been ordered to pay two drag queens he defamed $100,000 each and publicly apologize for calling them pedophiles.

State Rep. David Love (R) settled with the drag queens, Robert Champion and Michael McMahon, after a two-year court fight following Love’s accusation that both men had inappropriate relationships with children.

As part of the settlement, Love was forced to admit that his claims were “completely false.”

The plaintiffs filed suit after Love made the accusations in February 2022 while introducing a bill that would mandate library employees and volunteers obtain criminal background checks. Both Champion and McMahon had participated in drag queen story hours.

Love accused Champion, who appeared as Monique Toosoon in a story time event in Nashua in 2019, of being a “convicted sex offender.” The lawmaker also accused McMahon, as Clara Divine, of “rubbing butts” with children and “just really going way too far” at another event in Derry in 2021.

Love repeated the false accusations over the objections of Champion and McMahon, local officials, and community members who challenged him over the spurious claims.

Last week, Champion and McMahon secured the $200,000 settlement and a public retraction from Love, the Manchester Ink Link reported.

Love shared his apology on social media.

“After being provided with inaccurate information, information that I failed to verify, I publicly accused Robert Champion aka Monique Toosoon of being a registered sex offender and Michael McMahon aka Clara Divine of ‘rubbing butts’ with children,” the state rep posted in his retraction. “I have since learned that those assertions were completely false.”

“I wish to publicly retract those statements and apologize to Robert and Michael. I have agreed to monetary judgment against me for $100,000 for Robert and Michael each.”

Following the settlement, Champion told The Washington Post: “When you say things that are that damaging or harmful about someone, they’re not going to just sit there and let it happen.”

“Who knows what will happen with the political climate with drag queens right now?” Champion said.

McMahon told NBC Boston: “I don’t want people to look at something online about me that’s untrue and believe it, then not cast me for further story times or the children’s activities stuff, because I really like to educate the younger generation on what drag is.”

“I just want this to stand as a message for other people to not do this sort of thing, to not lie.”

Champion and McMahon’s win follows other successful defamation lawsuits addressing drag queens accused of sex crimes against children.

In May, a jury awarded Idaho drag performer Eric Posey more than $1.1 million in damages after a right-wing influencer falsely accused him of “flashing his genitalia” at children. In January, a judge in the U.K. ordered a conservative commentator to pay Drag Race UK queen Colin Seymour, aka Crystal, $200,000 after falsely calling him a pedophile.

Love’s library bill in the New Hampshire House failed to leave committee and was unanimously deemed “inexpedient to legislate,” according to state records.

Michele Morrow, the Republican candidate to become state superintendent of public instruction, is under fire for homophobic comments saying the “plus” in LGBTQ+ includes pedophilia.

Morrow made the anti-gay comment Monday in a social media post on X that talks about her Democratic opponent Mo Green being ‘proudly endorsed’ by Equality NC, whose mission statement is to promote LGBTQ+ power.’”

“NEWSFLASH…the ‘+’ includes PEDOPHLA!! “ Morrow added. “Mo Green will NOT keep our children safe!”

The social media post was condemned by Green as wrongly accusing the LGBTQ+ community of being pedophiles.

“This is another example in Michele Morrow’s long history of spreading hatred, encouraging violence, and proving she’s unfit to lead our public schools,” Green said in a statement Tuesday. “She’s the wrong role model for North Carolina’s 1.3 million students in public schools.”

Morrow’s campaign did not respond to a request for comment Wednesday from The News & Observer.

Morrow is a homeschool parent, conservative activist, registered nurse and former Christian missionary who upset incumbent Catherine Truitt in the March Republican primary for state superintendent.

She is running against Green, the former superintendent of Guilford County Schools. He’s also former executive director of the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation, a group that funds progressive causes.

False claims of LGBTQ+ community supporting pedophilia
The claim that the plus in LGBTQ+ stands for pedophilia has been falsely made for years.

“We follow the widely accepted understanding, as stated by our partners at the HRC (Human Rights Campaign) in their Glossary of Terms, that ‘LGBTQ+ is an acronym for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer, with a “+” sign to recognize the limitless sexual orientations and gender identities within our community,’” Equality NC said in a statement Wednesday.

“We encourage all candidates seeking office and their teams to familiarize themselves with these terms.”

Falsely claiming that the LGBTQ+ community supports pedophilia is part of a history of “painting LGBTQ people as a harm to society,” experts have said, according to ABC News.

In 2016 and 2017, “LGBTP” became an online meme promoting the false claim that the LGBTQ community is adding a “P” for “pedophile” to its acronym.

Most child molesters are heterosexual, according to the Zero Abuse Project, a nonprofit dedicated to protecting children from abuse and sexual assault.

In most child sexual abuse cases, the alleged abuser is the heterosexual partner of a close relative of the child, a 1994 study found.

Morrow accused of bullying students
Morrow’s comments are hateful and bully vulnerable LGBTQ+ students, staff and families across North Carolina, according to Green.

“Every child deserves to learn, and every staff member deserves to work, in an environment that is safe, welcoming, and inclusive,” Green said. “Politicians like Morrow use schools as battlegrounds for their culture wars, and it’s simply unacceptable.”

Morrow is dangerous, charged Anderson Clayton, chair of the North Carolina Democratic Party.

“She is actively bullying children and she’s creating unsafe environments,” Clayton said in a statement Tuesday. “This is the rhetoric of a hateful homophobic dark web internet troll who should never be in a position to oversee the education of North Carolina students.

“Not only does she not have any experience to oversee this department but with 49 days left in the election it is also truly disturbing that she thinks this is a winning message.”

Morrow: ‘No pride in perversion'
Morrow made national headlines after CNN reported on her past social media posts that talked about killing former President Barack Obama and encouraged President Donald Trump to use the military to stay in power in 2021.

During the campaign, Morrow has accused public schools of “teaching children to hate our country” and training students in “transgender theory.”

Morrow has also made multiple anti-gay public comments at Wake County school board meetings. She unsuccessfully ran for the school board in 2022.

“As a nurse I want you to understand something,” Morrow said at the June 6, 2023, board meeting as Wake marked Pride Month. “There is no pride in perversion. What we should be proud about is that we are people of character.”

Also at that June 6 meeting, Morrow disputed the idea that children could be transgender.

“All children are trans,” Morrow told the school board. “They’re transitioning from childhood to adulthood.

“They are the ones, there is no child that feels like a man or a woman, so allowing them to make decisions about their life or who they’re going to love or to know about the lifestyle choices of adults, is abusing the children’s mind at that time.”

Two weeks later, at the June 20, 2023 board meeting, Morrow responded to accusations that some speakers were making anti-LGBTQ+ comments at the meeting.

“They call us Marxists and hateful and bigots and everything else under the sun,” Morrow said. “Well let me tell you: Less than 5% of the entire population in North Carolina identifies as LGBTQ.”

Morrow went on to say that more than 50% of people in the state claim to believe in God, “who made us male and female” and “who made marriage between a man and a woman.”

A well-known French LGBT activist has been charged with sexually and physically abusing a developmentally disabled toddler.

Last year, 32-year-old Pierre-Alain Cottineau obtained approval from Child Welfare Services in France to become a foster parent. Cottineau specifically requested to foster children under the age of 6 and was subsequently matched with a 4-year-old girl who was placed in his care at his home.

In September, the French Office of Minors, a new division tasked with combatting violence against children, was made aware of child sexual abuse videos circulating on Telegram that were believed to have originated in France. Investigators were ultimately able to identify the identity of the child. When police arrived at Cottineau’s home, they found he had left for vacation and the child was hospitalized.

When Cottineau returned from his vacation in Tunisia, he was arrested at Nanes Airport.

Upon being investigated by law enforcement, Cottineau admitted he was a pedophile and to sexually and physically abusing the child. He also admitted to circulating the footage through pedophile networks. He has since been indicted for rape, torture, and barbarism. If convicted, Cottineau faces life imprisonment. Authorities are currently investigating if there are more victims who are not yet known.

Cottineau is a prominent LGBT activist in the Loire-Atlantique region of France. According to a report by Reedux, In 2021 he ran for departmental elections with the left-wing party La France Insoumise, which enforces a “zero-tolerance” policy on anti-LGBT remarks among its members. In 2018, Cottineau was elected president of The Rainbow Shelter, where he organized the community’s first forum to combat homophobia and transphobia.

Additionally, Cottineau works as a professional caregiver and family aide, which may have contributed to his approval to adopt a child. He has founded multiple organizations, including Oudon Solidarity and the Mutual Aid Collective, as well as the LGBTQI+ Association of Ancenis (EsAc).

The conservative firebrand assailed Magnus Hirschfeld, the Weimar-era German-Jewish sexologist whose work was burned by Nazi brownshirts.

In a segment for her online show on Saturday, conservative pundit Candace Owens asserted that “the entire field of psychology was built by pedophiles and perverts,” taking aim not only at Sigmund Freud and the controversial 20th-century researcher, John Money, but also Magnus Hirschfeld, the Weimar-era German-Jewish sexologist whose work was burned by Nazi brownshirts.

The right-wing talk show host, whose program appears on the online network The Daily Wire, asserted that all three men were gay (exclusively using the term “homosexual” throughout her monologue) and that they had a suspicious interest in the sexuality of children.

Among other accusations, Owens suggested that Hirschfeld showed a perverse interest in the sex lives of colonized Africans.
Hirschfeld’s writing on race is a matter of continued controversy, in particular from today’s theoreticians of ‘queer studies,’ but it was unclear what the conservative firebrand was referring to.

Attacking Magnus Hirschfeld, antisemitic element of persecution is omitted
Owens recounted the supposed reasons why German fascists targeted Hirschfeld’s Institute for Sexual Studies: “I was shocked that I never learned,” she said, “that the brownshirts— the student activists that went around burning a bunch of books— were burning books that they deemed to be Marxist and that they deemed to be overtly sexual.”
Omitted from this account was the antisemitic nature of the attacks on Hirschfeld. Nazi propagandists used Hirschfeld as an example of what they called "degenerate Jewish sexuality," and fascist activists at one point raised posters outside the researcher’s home that read: “Dr. Hirschfeld a Public Danger: The Jews are Our Undoing!”

Owens repeatedly noted that Hirschfeld was gay: “Yes, he was a homosexual,” she said, introducing a photograph of him and his colleagues, in which Hirschfeld is seen holding hands with his partner.
“In my view, he’s a pervert,” Owens said. “It doesn’t mean that his library or his institute should have been burned down— there’s no excuse for burning down an institute— but we don’t then also pretend that somebody that is perverse is also a hero.”
Owens then proceeded to her next segment, which centered on a Gen-Z influencer and her estranged father, who are currently feuding on TikTok.

CANDACE OWENS (HOST): Perhaps more recent in our memory is the long fought and won passage of gay marriage in 2015. Two points that liberals made during that debate as it raged on over the years. Point number one: Us being gay doesn't mean we're going to make your kids homosexual — we're not pedophiles. Point number two: All we're asking for is the right to love; two people who are in love should have the right to marry. Love is love.

And they told the truth, by the way, for about six months before LGB became LGBT became what is today known as LGBTQIA. I mean, when I was in elementary school, I called everything gay — colloquially — especially my sisters. “You're gay, Ashley,” I would say. “Oh, that's so gay.” That was the cool, hip slang when I was 5 — until we learned that actually, it was hurtful to homosexuals, even though we were never aiming the word at them. But using the word casually, we were told, uh-uh — don't say gay anymore. And we didn't, because it was no longer socially acceptable and the teachers teaching that word? Oh no, no, no. Forget about it. In my day, it wasn't even appropriate for teachers to be seen outside of the classroom. I mean, I once ran into my fourth-grade teacher at the grocery store and I almost fell apart. Hi, Mrs. Longo, what are you doing here? Outside of the classroom? Oh, buying groceries like a regular human being? Likely story. I'll be reporting this. It was just easier that way in the '90s, right? Teachers taught, siblings fought, but now everything has changed. We've slipped right down the proverbial slope. What will follow this, the intentional and overt confusion and sexualization of our children in the classroom, is obvious.
