Longest-running Pediverse site NNIA closes its doors

Post by Jim Burton »

Today, it appears, the federating part of NNIA, the largest and longest running Pediverse (MAP Mastodon) instance, just shut down. There will be an instance, but it will remain private, kind of like a walled garden in Fediverse.

This is quite big, and perhaps the Fediverse equivalent of Virtuous Pedophiles suddenly shutting down. Certainly, NNIA was a lot more influential than Virped within the community, as it catered to younger users and had similar activity levels. It was less influential outside of it. It was also a kind of entry point for non-Pediverse users to integrate themselves, particularly when coming from Tumblr and Paraphile Twitter.

The reasons given for the shutdown are related to anti-c ideology, and what the owners of the site see as routine toleration of abuse and abuse material on the other instances.

I guess the net effect of this shutdown will be positive, as there were some pretty nasty characters and anti collaborators on this instance, as well as censorship. It's a shame the owner wasn't willing to hand the site over to someone with a more open vision for how it should go forward.

Useless.
Am I not simply a human being just like you? But out of your norm.
