Chandigarh/Ludhiana: A paedophile sentenced to death for the brutal rape and murder of a four-year-old girl broke free from police at a hospital around Tuesday midnight and is loose in Chandigarh.
Multiple police teams are looking for the convict, 29-year-old Sonu, but nearly 48 hours on, there is no sign of him. Investigators are scanning CCTV footage of the hospital and nearby roads.
Sonu was lodged in Ludhiana Central Jail and was brought to GMCH-32 Hospital in Chandigarh for tests as he complained of severe stomach ache. He is familiar with the hospital layout and the locality as he had been brought here several times earlier for psychiatric assessment.
