KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City-area nonprofit founded and operated by a convicted child sex offender has been hosting events for children and is planning more.
This is prompting strong warnings from legal experts who said the situation exposes a dangerous gap in Missouri law.

Greg Watt, a defense attorney and former Jackson County prosecutor, says the events should have already triggered legal action.
“It’s deeply concerning,” Watt said. “I think it should be investigated; I think it should be prosecuted if need be. I think these individuals know better.”
The nonprofit in question, Sisters in Spirit Transitional Living Empowerment and Recovery Programs, was co-founded by Shoana White.
White is a convicted Tier-Three sex offender, the highest tier designation at the federal level.
