A Japanese woman, who was referred to trial on charges of unexpectedly kissing BTS member Jin, was reported to have expressed her grievance.

According to a TBS News report on the 18th, Ms. A, a woman in her 50s from Japan who was indicted without detention on charges of forced molestation, stated to South Korean investigative authorities, “It’s frustrating. I didn’t know this would be considered a crime.”

Ms. A is accused of participating in a “hugging event” with 1,000 fans held at the Jamsil Indoor Gymnasium in June of last year after Jin completed his military service and kissing him on the cheek. The Songpa Police Station booked Ms. A based on CCTV footage and the victim’s statement from Jin and requested her attendance; however, as the investigation was expected to take a considerable amount of time, they decided to suspend the investigation in March. Subsequently, Ms. A voluntarily appeared at the police station for questioning, and the Songpa Police Station judged that her charges were valid and referred the case to the prosecution.

In many East Asian countries, a lot of the hysteria about age-gap interaction is replaced by hysteria about gender-gap interaction. Men just don't touch women platonically, but same-gender affection is normal, even between adults and children.

In Japan, AMSC laws differed based on gender until 2023. In China, some laws still differ.
