Adolescence lasts into 30s - new study shows four pivotal ages for your brain

Post by Jim Burton »

The brain goes through five distinct phases in life, with key turning points at ages nine, 32, 66 and 83, scientists have revealed.

Around 4,000 people up to the age of 90 had scans to reveal the connections between their brain cells.

Researchers at the University of Cambridge showed that the brain stays in the adolescent phase until our early thirties when we "peak".

They say the results could help us understand why the risk of mental health disorders and dementia varies through life.

The brain is constantly changing in response to new knowledge and experience – but the research shows this is not one smooth pattern from birth to death.

There is nothing new or groundbreaking about this. As for the "peaks", there are numerous studies shows it's in the late thirties and mid to late forties. This so-called "adolescence" extending that they speak of is a bit hogwash. The concept of adolescence and the brain being "fully" or "underdeveloped" is also hogwash. There is no such thing as a fully or underdeveloped brain. Go read my article I wrote here on this forum: https://forum.map-union.org/viewtopic.php?t=3271.

New Brain Adolescence Age Just Dropped

Post by Bookshelf »

Turns out adulthood doesn't start until 32 now. Great. Didn't think it would get worse than "the brain doesn't stop developing until 25" to justify youth oppression but here we are.
The brain is constantly changing in response to new knowledge and experience – but the research shows this is not one smooth pattern from birth to death.

Instead, these are the five brain phases:

Childhood - from birth to age nine

Adolescence - from nine to 32

Adulthood - from 32 to 66

Early ageing - from 66 to 83

Late ageing - from 83 onwards

They might as well if they're pretending the AoC is science-based.

Or they could lower it to 9!

Call me cynical, but aside from how this 'study' will be used by antis, this is an attempt to push the boundary on banning transgender care for adults in the UK. If a legal adult can be considered an adolescent in any way with the backing of a (flawed) study, their autonomy over medical decisions can be restricted by the state using it as justification. The 'brain development stops at 25' line has already been cited in US attempts to restrict transgender care for adults up to that age, and I wouldn't put it past bigots to use this for their mission creep.

One could counter by banning alcohol and smoking for those under thirty. It would be amusing—a new prohibition.
