Billionaire Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence chatbot Grok said “lapses in safeguards” led to the generation of sexualised images of minors that it posted to social media site X.

Grok created images of minors in minimal clothing in response to user prompts over the past few days, violating its own acceptable use policy, which prohibits the sexualisation of children, the chatbot said in a series of posts on X this week in response to user queries.

The offending images were taken down, it added.

Elon Musk’s Grok chatbot has drawn outrage and calls for investigation after being used to flood X with “undressed” images of women and sexualized images of what appear to be minors. However, that’s not the only way people have been using the AI to generate sexualized images. Grok’s website and app, which are are separate from X, include sophisticated video generation that is not available on X and is being used to produce extremely graphic, sometimes violent, sexual imagery of adults that is vastly more explicit than images created by Grok on X. It may also have been used to create sexualized videos of apparent minors.

How could they not have used it for that reason… I mean, damn, even Blender could be used to create photorealistic images (and whether it’s generated by AI or with 3D modeling software doesn’t really change much: there are no “victims”), even a pencil… I mean, have you seen some drawings that look like actual three-dimensional objects?

Where are the sensationalist articles about 3D modeling and pencils? Actually, I take that back… I’d never want to end up with Blender with built-in AI that monitors whether pornographic or violent content, or content involving minors, is being produced.

I always can't help but laugh at the ignorant idea that stopping Grok from doing this will "stop" it from happening.
The tech is out there, it can run entirely locally on personal computers (expensive, but possible). There is no stopping it and there is no slowing it down.

Marvel star Xochitl Gomez spoke out about the gut-wrenching moment she discovered pornographic deepfakes using her face had been circulating on X.

Celebrities have been the targets of deepfakes since the dawn of AI, and while some may seem amusing, there are a lot of deeply inappropriate sexual images of popular faces floating aroudn the internet without consent.

One person who has been impacted by this epidemic is Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness star Gomez, who spoke out about the harrowing moment she learnt her face had been used to create explicit deepfakes back in 2024.

Touching on the topic during an interview on The Squeeze podcast - which is hosted by actor Taylor Lautner and his wife, also named Taylor Lautner - the 19-year-old remembered being 'weirded out' after seeing the images on X.

"It made me weirded out and I didn’t like it and I wanted it taken down. That was my main thought process was, 'Down. Take this down. Please'." she recalled.
