A convicted paedophile abducted a 12-year-old boy and took him from Wales to London on a train after lying about his own age and his background. He went on to sexually assault other boys, having previously been convicted of a similar offence.

Kai Giggie, 26, of Bridgend, groomed his first victim after lying about his age, claiming he was a teenage boy of a similar age. He spent money on the 12-year-old and bought him food and convinced him to accompany him on a trip to London on the train.

A sentencing hearing at Newport Crown Court on Friday heard the victim was reluctant to travel with the defendant, but he placed pressure on him by saying he had already paid for the tickets. Don’t miss a court report by signing up to our crime newsletter here.

The victim lied to his mother about his whereabouts and travelled to London with Giggie, with them not returning to Wales until 11pm.

Giggie went on to sexually assault two teenage boys, the first by placing his head on a 14-year-old boy's thigh and the second by "spooning" a 13-year-old boy when he was lying down.

The defendant was later arrested by the police and was interviewed, but answered "no comment".

Giggie, of HMP Parc, later pleaded guilty to abducting a child, two counts of sexual assault and engaging in sexual activity with a child.

The defendant has a previous conviction for engaging in an illicit act with an older child, which involved him sexually abusing a 14-year-old boy in Aberdeen.

In mitigation, Jac Brown said his client has a number of mental difficulties and has issues with neurodevelopment. He asked the judge to keep the sentence as short as possible.

No you see, I was brutally raped in a similar manner once. I was on this romantic candlelit date with this woman... and she hugged me at the end of it!!! Even worse, she groomed me by offering to pay half... I was violated.

That's sarcastic obviously, but it is funny to imagine how different people's perspectives towards it would be based on ages. Two adults - fine. If in the story I was a minor, then the sarcasm isn't too far off from what people would actually say.
