GILMAN, Iowa —
A Gilman man charged in a sex abuse case in July is now facing new charges stemming back to the 1970s.
Court documents allege Stanley Chesick sexually abused an 8-year-old girl and showed her pornography in 1977. Chesick will appear in court for this new case next Friday.

The case comes just two months after prosecutors charged him in a similar case stemming from earlier this year. Chesick was arrested in July after allegations that he showed adult content to a child and sexually abused them between June 8 and July 10 of this year.
He got charged with:
Second-degree sexual abuse
Lascivious acts with a child
Dissemination of obscene material to minors

An 81-year-old Gilman man has been charged with a pair of felonies over allegations that he sexually abused a minor victim and showed the victim pornography earlier this month.
Stanley Joel Chesick was arrested on Friday and charged with second degree sexual abuse, a Class B felony, lascivious acts with a child — fondle/touch, a Class C felony, and dissemination and exhibition of obscene materials to minors, a serious misdemeanor.
According to criminal complaints filed by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, Chesick made inappropriate comments to the minor victim on multiple occasions and touched the victim in a way that constituted a sex act. He is also alleged to have shown the victim pornographic videos on a cellular phone and asked the victim to perform similar acts.
As this issue went to press, Chesick was being held in the Marshall County Jail on a $25,000 bond. Trial and hearing dates have not yet been set.

I understand that some people take a while to process their feelings with cases like this. But waiting 50 years and still being able to press charges is insane. I guess him committing a new crime is what convinced his victim from all that time ago to come forward (or it fell loose during the investigation). But still, crimes that old should face some kind of diminished returns when it comes to sentencing.

Not surprising, since the same crowd that supports #MeToo is now campaigning for eliminating the statute of limitations for sex crimes involving minors, and Iowa is one of the jurisdictions where they have been successful so far: https://eu.desmoinesregister.com/story/ ... 062099001/

I agree. The statute of limitation should never have been done away with. And after the passage of such a long period as this, it just shouldn't even be admissible.
