However, Bogaert’s original framing placed autochorissexualism within the category of “paraphilia.”
Paraphilia is a term used to describe intense sexual interest in atypical objects or behaviors and, according to the American Psychiatric Association (APA), can be classified as a mental disorder.
In fact, the APA explained that paraphilic disorders – some that “cause psychological distress, injury, or death” to “unwilling persons” – include voyeuristic disorder, sexual masochism disorder, sexual sadism disorder, and pedophilic disorder.
Some studies even suggest that certain paraphilic disorders, particularly pedophilic disorder, are “merely impossible to fix,” and only curable with “incarceration.”

Anything can be classified as a mental disorder, and that’s precisely why homosexuality was considered a mental disorder for a time. It’s not that science advanced and we said, “Oh, how stupid, we were wrong, we misreported the commas in multiplication.” Society changed—so much so that it would no longer be possible to categorize it as a disorder even if it perfectly met the definition of a disorder that a paraphiliac could have, without causing an uproar.
And persistent impulses don’t automatically lead to crime: It’s not the disorder that drives someone to commit sexual assault, even for sadists. If that were the case, then by simple logical consequence: No rapist, no person accused of pedophilia, and no one who committed a crime because of their paraphilia should go to prison. Not a single one—for their supposed inability to control themselves.
But if there is control, that means there is choice. Or should we imprison people with Tourette’s Syndrome who, because of it, tell a judge to go f*** themselves?
So what do we do? Transfer some criminals to an institution maybe near a beach because poor things, it’s not their fault but their disorder, or do we give individuals responsibility for their own actions?
I hate the way quotation marks are used here. Does a person stop being sadistic just because they’re incarcerated? Are we joking? That’s what “curable” means. Assuming, of course, one doesn’t admit that prison is basically a trash bin where you throw undesirables just because you can’t sentence them to death.

Prison is about as much "a cure" for pedophilia as conversion camps are for homosexuals. Not Forever wrote: Sun Feb 15, 2026 2:33 pm Anything can be classified as a mental disorder, and that’s precisely why homosexuality was considered a mental disorder for a time. I support AAMs and MAPs. Personally I am a romantic GL but I support loving relationships between people from infants all the way up to the elderly.
