In order to have safe contact we need police abolition

A place to debate contact stances and possible reforms. You can express pro-c, pro-reform, or anti-c views. Just be respectful and do not advocate engaging in criminalized sexual relationships.

In order to have safe contact we need police abolition

Post by lovefindsaway »

We need police and prison abolition. We need to abolish all systems and structures that control and manage people and surveil our private lives. Without the presence of police and prisons, both MAPs and AAMs would feel safer pursuing romantic and sexual relationships with each other. As long as the police exist, people’s lives will be in danger.

Before police and prisons existed, if people didn’t like you, you could just leave the community and start another one elsewhere. In the modern colonial world, if you aren’t liked, if your behaviors aren’t considered to be “socially acceptable”, they lock you up. We don’t have to live like this if we seek abolition.

I'm not that familiar with prison/police abolition. What's the typical solution to a problem like serial killers?

I am very firmly opposed to abolishing the police and prison system. I can support reforming prison and the penal system in various ways, all decent people agree that the suffering prison causes is bad unconditionally, but I'm convinced that they are necessary for the time being at least (until we come up with a better alternative; technology might help in that regard, or human 'nature'/culture radically changes for whatever reasons; maybe through genetic and social engineering) and abolishing them would ultimately do more harm than good.

I don't want to get into counter arguments at the moment but I firmly disagree with you.

I will add that abolishing prison to eliminate statutory rape laws seems like throwing the baby out with the bathwater and I imagine that life prior to the prison system was very difficult and dangerous in many ways that either had nothing to do with the modern prison system one way or the other or were remedied by it.

As someone in favor of prison abolition far before discovering map and radqueer type stuff I'd generally agree, but I would like to add that prior to very recent labor saving technologies, which aren't available to everyone or usable by some disabled people, leaving a community alone was almost always a death sentence. Kinda hope everyone can have access to renewable energy and an automated method of subsistence food production if we reach that point.
