Not one to draw many conclusions from (the 'Big Kink Survey' was more interesting if you know about it). The biggest problem is that "CSA" is not defined, so self-reported "CSA" equals neither AMSC nor instances of assault/non-consent. Then you have all the typical limitations of survey. Still worth visiting, and then someone in the comments, a trauma expert, is complaining about Aella's recommended book, The trauma myth, not because they dislike the book (which they haven't read, and I confess I haven't read it yet) but because MAPs like it.

A thing I try to emphasize to people who are more open minded is that it's very clear there is a kind of phobia of maps and that this motivates people in ways that are counterproductive to actually helping peopleLearning to undeny wrote: Mon Mar 30, 2026 10:01 pmStill worth visiting, and then someone in the comments, a trauma expert, is complaining about Aella's recommended book, The trauma myth, not because they dislike the book (which they haven't read, and I confess I haven't read it yet) but because MAPs like it.![]()

That trauma "expert" made a couple of comments there. In one she asserts that there is a long-term physical reaction within the nervous system to AMSC that can last decades. Not a mental one; a physical one. Such a ridiculous claim that someone else felt the need to challenge it.
It appears she made the claim to try and address people who claim to not have had a negative experience.

I'm a researcher who studies trauma, I also have to wonder the impact of the freeze response, which tends to be the most common nervous system reaction to trauma occurring below the waist as well as in young children. That freeze response can still be active decades later. So my concern is - in claiming the effect of CSA is often overstated culturally - is a significant portion of that population still in the freeze?
