What's the primary reason social media sharing is strictly banned here?

Post by Theendoftheline »

Like, It...kinda sucks that we are not allowed to share our Discords with one another to were we cant dm like minded people or form real close connections with people ya know? I mean I think I get it someone runs off to discord with a user here that might be underage, or uses share illegal content with one another, and then make the site look bad. Not to mention law enforcement stings aka someone posing as someone they are not to entrap them.

Are their any other reasons?

It isn't worth the risk of sharing socials. It might be OK for true privacy platforms such as Session but the site is protecting its members.

Pedohunters are generally society dropouts with nothing to lose and plenty of time on their hands. Usually no work or low paid jobs they can bunk off easily. With nothing going on in their lives they have plenty of time to target others so they don't feel quite at the bottom of the barrel. The psychology of these people is pretty well understood and documented. It isn't worth the headache risking giving them something not earned, let them fester in their own dead-end lives and use your time here productively helping with advocacy and activism.

Nothing p*sses an anti off more than a seeing a map happy and doing better than they are, which frankly is a pretty low bar to set.

even if you dont share anything questionable, do not do anything illegal do not post any underage art or anything they can STILL get you? I dont see how just the act of being on discord can get you traced as an individual,

There are various ways. On Discord you can what mutual servers the person is on so if you were a hunter you might join a very large number of servers to try to find non-map servers the person is on. From there you could search through their posts on other servers do build a profile, or on a second account connect with them on a non-map server and try to tease out PII. You could even set up a trap such as create another server, ideally using your second identity from the non-map server to allay suspicion, it's common on servers to require new members to complete some checks that could be used to identify the person. There are some very skilled social engineers out there and something like Discord just isn't built to protect people.

Of course Discord itself will be collecting IPs since most systems do to help maintain connections, breaches can and do happen which could expose identifies and IPs and laws in different countries vary so a server or accounts could be handed over without breaking any laws, there's no reason to think that Discord would push back in such situations.

The safest way is to not use anything that can expose identities or IP addresses and still take great care. Most people who are victims of data breaches or are targeted are law abiding citizens, bad actors don't just target bad people. Among these bad actors I would include anti's and vigilante's who just want to harm maps by outing them just for being a map.
