Paraphilias in Discussion

Post by Yog-Sothoth32 »

Below is a post I added to my private Reddit group. I hope you find it useful and interesting:

**

Ever notice that some of the things we think about become some of our most guarded secrets? I mean, early on, sex was the buzzword which set our minds on fire! We tried to make sense of this completely normal and natural practice, because as uninitiated, we had no knowledge of it or what it was, what it meant, or even why people would do… IT.

Of course, being exposed to it (we were all exposed at different times, stages, and in different ways) got us thinking about it, and some of these things grew a life of their own.

Interestingly, as the science progresses (including gene sequencing) we are beginning to understand more about the human condition and the neurotransmitters involved in our desires (Serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine). Further, we are learning that as we follow the science, we begin to realize there is a difference between having a paraphilia and having a paraphiliic disorder. The difference being whether the individual has impairment or distress surrounding their paraphilia(s) or not. As time has transpired and the DSM (Diagnostic Statistical Manual) is now in its 5th edition, there is strong debate and little consensus as to what is “normal” and what is considered paraphilic.

I would argue that laws placed into societal doctrine, does not change a creature’s urges. All creatures practice learned behaviors which keep them safe or allow reward, whether it is natural to them or not. So with that being said, perhaps the problem is less what a human is and their behavior, and more about standards or conduct in keeping with the societal expectations? We know this is true with regard to religious taboos and tribal behaviors.

With the spectrum of sexual personas expanding and the battle between traditionally accepted norms and mores, vs. a more progressive acceptance toward holding space for more people to express their normalcy in the greater societal sphere; where science begins to recognize more orientations as normal, and yet still grapples with consent, we are perpetually at odds with what we do about those in the fringes and grey areas of the sexual landscape. Take pedophiles as an example. the current estimate is that within the general population, 3-5% are pedophilic. That means in North America between 18.5M and 30.8M people are pedophiles. At least 10% of these are female. This is the total population of countries like the Netherlands,Australia, Cameroon, or Guatemala! Yet, the scientific community still believes these individuals need to be cured. Personally, I don’t see this as realistic or possible. When considering the entire world population of 8B, we are looking at a pedophilic population of upwards of 400M! Obviously, when considering all paraphilias this number explodes, and may even include every single one of us.

It is fascinating to think that as a fetish’s population gets smaller and perhaps more esoteric, the masses attempt to assimilate those within that group to conform to the rest of the population. Is it any wonder that we are all hiding ourselves in one way, shape or form?

Here is an interesting article with some very current science:

Let me know what you think, and how you see our path taking shape into the future. With the changing perspectives of society, and those fighting against those shifts, where do you think we are destined to end up in the future?

Great post!!

I'm curious to know what is the reaction of the members of your group.
When society judges without understanding, it silences hearts that yearn for connection.

Thanks for the kind review.

Honestly, it’s a dead group. If I post new, they read, but very little engagement besides a couple of individuals in general and the occasional upvote.

I have about 50 hand selected folks I’ve invited from different fringe groups when I read a post that signals they may be a good candidate and receptive to join.

I cover a few topics there. The group is about why we are this way, where “this” can mean a broad spectrum of (sexual) ways

I monitor groups about:

Hypersexuality
Coprophilia
Incest
Molested folks
Butt plugs and A/O lifestyle
Age gap
Others
