I just wondered what others were feel about what I see as suppression of peoples rights that under 18. Where I live they are going to stop anyone under 16 accessing social media. The list of apps that will not be able to access is so long it a joke. Sites like YouTube, Snapchat and many others on there. Plus they want to stop under 18s going on sites at different types of the day. They say this a protection to stop accessing harmful material. It seems to me they want to just put everyone under 18 in a box and stop them learning or communicating. Yes, there are harmful stuff online like incels and suicide forums. Yet these are not on apps, plus maybe if they had not introduced age verification in the first place under 18s would not be forced into sites like these. They forget that sites like YouTube are used in education and that often a college, like I attend puts exam practice questions and assignments work on YouTube. Plus whilst not always right sites like YouTube and others offers a way to learn.
They do not listen to under 18s views or care. I think it is as we cannot vote. Yet anyone who is 16, can join the armed forces, so die in service, marry. They can vote in certain elections, just not national ones. However they could just take down all the suicide sites, which be easier than banning all under 16s and in some cases under 18s from accessing social media. As per my introduction, I left home at 16. I had no friends. Social media helped me gain friends. It also helped me understand I not 'evil'. It helps me learn at college. Even stuff I do for mental health appointments are online through social apps.
It makes me laugh that we are told we cannot have loving relationships with people under 16. That this is wrong, that how dare we want this. Yet if we had that sort of relationship it be a sharing one. Yet older people can dictate that we cannot find friends on social media or relax watching funny You Tube videos or learn. How can they dictate that. Surely that abuse.
