Why are minors today so truthful about age?

Post by Theendoftheline »

So I have a discord server right? Well I of course have 18 plus sections and of course legally and (to many users on discord morally) am required to not let anyone under 18 into NSFW sections. Well, you know what I find funny or what I notice now? Now legally I'm not sure exactly if I can condone what I'm about to say...but I always have people join, want in the nsfw sections and for me to give em this or that role and I look at their profile and it says they are under 18 I literally cannot allow minors into a NSFW chat knowing that they ae not legal adults.....

What I am getting at is, why does it seem almost NO minors now online lie about their age in their profile anymore? I mean some do their always will be some that do but most do not and then act surprised when I deny them a NSFW role...? I mean literally when I was a kid on the internet I always lied about my age in profiles etc to get away with being in places I'm not "supposed" to be in etc. It makes no sense. Like they just do that either 1. to signal to other people their age they they are in their age range and want to connect with, 2. if anything happens they can just say "nooo look at me I'm a minor and do not know any better or 3. to ward of "predators" or to let adults know they are a kid.

Now many would argue I should go further and ID people actually before they are allowed in nsfw spaces and to that I may be forced to at some point but in general I just miss a time when the internet was more free from these insane ID verification processes of modern internet. That said, young people today are confusing.

It could be that they're becoming aware of the fact that they could have their lives ruined if they lie, and also strict parenting as well may condition them not to lie.
38, female. Writer, mediocre artist, and total sub!
Westernized society hates youth. MAPs are the cure. Youth are NOT slaves. They are our future and we must fight for their freedom.

I'm getting more and more and more pissed off at modern society. I guess the kids online safety act just passed the house....which again treats anyone under the magic 18 number as if they are a helpless little baby....making minors....again second class citizens. What the fuck is wrong with adults these days? They truly believe teenagers are retarded.

I know, I'm super surprised by the lack of lying. Although, there are probably plenty who do lie you'd never expect or won't know unless they confess.

I partake in random chat sites when I'm lonely/bored sometimes. 90% of the time I couldn't care less how old you are, as long as the conversations are entertaining. The only time I'd care to know is if we transition off site, and exchange pictures. And even then, plausible deniability, unless it's super obvious.

But, lately I've had minors insist on telling me they are. Makes me wonder honestly. But we'll be having a long, good chat, and somewhere along the way the ask age. I'll be truthful with mine (somewhere mid 20's to mid 30's, avoiding specifics here) and theyll respond and basically allude to be younger. I'll try and tell them if its younger than 18, just don't tell me, as I've been enjoying our conversation and will feel obligated to move on if they are. And sometimes they absolutely insist on telling me they're 15 or 16, but convince me to keep talking to them anyways. The conversations stay pg, and they don't push the conversation otherwise, nor do I, so it makes me think they aren't hunters or trolls. Otherwise why tell me just to continue to nerd out on books or anime?

When I was surfing the Internet as a child, I very quickly noticed that saying your real age would attract a lot of attention. What else do you need in childhood?) attention is always good, so I hid my age only where I could get banned)

Yeah, I guess now its illegal to even TALK to a minor outside public group chats because the groups and public chats act like a shield if you will to protect the party under 18 from being groomed supposedly. IDK if it actually is or not but a lot of people say it is. I see loads and loads of all the way up to 17 yos saying things like "DM, unless over 18 then nty" and crap like that all the time.

as for minors needing to confess their age etc it's prolly just them setting a soft boundary like "hey I'm enjoying our talks but don't try anything funny I'm a minor"...Its kinda like their "shield" in a sense, once they pull the minor card if any joke is a little too saucy, or any topic too "mature" the responsibility legally speaking falls on you the adult and you the adult alone because according to the law they are a child that does not know any better and are being groomed. Unless they do something illegal enough such as murder or rape then all of a sudden a 16 yo can get tried as an adult and are apparently mature enough to understand the ramifications of their actions.

I've seen a lot of youth online admittedly that do not view themselves as helpless victims over any adult interaction, but for every one of those I see their are countless that are just chomping at the bit to call someone a groomer over a harmless jokes. It truly does feel like a huge portion of modern youth are lost in legal distinctions, and so fourth to the point I have literally seen 17 yos the day they turn 18 block and cease contact with anyone that's under 18 because they are literally afraid to be called groomer.

Hell, its even got so bad that I once defended a 16 yo dating an 18 yo in a public server at one point and all those dumbasses in the server could respond with is "lol okay groomer" or "wow that's sus guys prolly a pedo lol". When I doubled down and asked them people In said chats to defend their positions all they could do was repeat "cause 18s actually an adult durrrr and no minor should be with a grown ass man" however miniscule the age gap is be damned......So so brain rotted with tic tok "power imbalance" culture and even youth that do otherwise well in school and are good at math seem to lack critical thinking skills....especially on topics of their own autotomy which they so willingly give up in favor of being helpless victims every chance they get which many seem to be so very deeply emotionally invested in for what the fuck ever reason.
