Military sergeant was arrested during an operation against child pornography and will be in the custody of the Air Force.

The sergeant of the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) Patrik de Sousa Lima, 38, who was arrested on Wednesday (25), for paedophilia in the Federal District during the Megaoperation Terabyte, was crowded in the Air Force Command, linked to the Ministry of Defence. The arrest took place in an apartment in Cruzeiro, where more than 5,000 files related to the crime were found. Lima is currently in military custody and will respond to the charges in a FAB prison.

The military officer, who appears on the Federal Government's Transparency Portal with a gross salary of R$9,206.10, was arrested. The operation also resulted in the arrest of two other men, one of whom was 39 years old and caught with 300 files of child pornography, and the other, 59 years old, who had more than 20,000 files. Both confessed to the crimes, and investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of the network and possible sharing of illegal material. Operation Terabyte, coordinated by the Federal Police in partnership with the civil police forces of several states, simultaneously served 141 search and seizure warrants throughout Brazil, resulting in the arrest of 56 people to date.

The name of the operation was chosen due to the digital storage unit, reflecting the focus on identifying individuals who possess or traffic large amounts of child sexual abuse material. In addition to the national effort, the Federal Police received support from the United States Internal Investigation Agency (HSI), reinforcing the importance of international collaboration in combating cybercrime. The operation demonstrates a significant commitment by authorities to combat pedophilia and protect children, alerting parents to the importance of monitoring online activity.

The Brazilian Air Force expressed itself on the arrest, stating that it vehemently repudiates conduct that does not reflect institutional values. The FAB highlighted that the second sergeant is at the disposal of the police authorities for the elucidation of the facts, reaffirming his commitment to security and ethics. Investigations continue to verify whether the accused participated in paedophilia file marketing groups.
