As the title suggests... a suicide because the relationship between a couple (13F & 20M) wasn't allowed by her parents, who had already begun taking legal action (which would have ultimately led to the boyfriend being sent to jail, of course, and for many years).

Aside from the media, I've come across people commenting on the news on X, and their comments have made me feel physically sick.
All the comments were from people who were absolutely outraged that the news story even hinted that she was happy or used terms like “love” or “romantic relationship” (and this, despite the fact that the story constantly puts “love” and “lovers” in quotation marks and calls him an abuser). All the comments saying how unacceptable this is—that they can only view it as abuse and that there must be zero tolerance for abuse—are all reproducing precisely the same attitudes that led these two young people to take their own lives. There isn’t a single one that isn’t like that. Not a single person seems capable of thinking, “Hey, maybe if they’d been left alone, they’d still be alive and happy?” They’ve seen the reasons for the suicide and said, “Hey, if it were up to me to change something here… well, no, I’d do exactly the same thing that drove them to suicide. I’m a hero in the fight against evil pedophiles!”
There were also several comments celebrating the boyfriend’s death and saying, “I wish only he had killed himself.” At least I think those comments were more sincere and less hypocritical than the ones that pretend to mourn the girlfriend's death while replicating the very attitudes that drove her to suicide.
I try to keep believing that there’s a glimmer of goodness in these anti stances—that there’s a genuine concern for young people’s well-being and that they’re simply mistaken about the best way to ensure it—but then I see things like this, and it’s hard to hold onto that hope. And this girl was already a teenager; if she’d been even younger, I don’t even want to imagine…
What kind of evidence would it take for these people to accept that their actions are doing far more harm to minors than they’re preventing? They have the evidence right in front of them, and they don’t even care! It reminds me of that “Are we the baddies?” sketch, except that they never realize they’re the baddies, no matter how obvious it is.
A couple (13 & 20) commits suicide because they weren't allowed to be together
Re: A couple (13 & 20) commits suicide because they weren't allowed to be together
Yup, I hate how they portray the dude nonetheless as the one who caused her death, and the parents as those who "were trying to save her". As if she didn't commit suicide precisely because of THEM!
The columnists cannot comprehend love between a teenager and a young adult. For them it's always in quotation marks and a fantasy of the teenager girl.
Furthermore, even though he was a drug dealer, it's only mentioned once in the article, yet the age gap is in bold characters to emphazise it and in the title too.

It would have made more sense to erase all evidence and give the authorities nothing.

Well, anyway, I think they’re emphasizing that just to make him seem more evil and so people will empathize with him less. They’ve even put it in the headline, and I don’t think it’s relevant enough to do that, since it doesn’t seem to have any connection to the causes of the suicide or to the relationship they had. Who knows if it’s even true… according to the article, the only evidence for it is statements made to the media by some neighbor.ReArm! wrote: Thu Aug 06, 2026 3:48 pm Furthermore, even though he was a drug dealer, it's only mentioned once in the article, yet the age gap is in bold characters to emphazise it and in the title too.
Perhaps the parents had already sent evidence to the police. In today’s world, I don’t know to what extent it’s possible to erase all evidence… I think it’s likely that witness statements and records of conversations they’ve had online or over the phone would be enough to secure a conviction.Jim Burton wrote: Thu Aug 06, 2026 5:00 pm It would have made more sense to erase all evidence and give the authorities nothing.
In any case, of course, it would have been better to serve the sentence. You only live once; he would have been released from prison while still young… (I don’t know how many years he would have had to serve—maybe 10? If you’re released from prison at age 30, you still have many years to live). For the girl, as painful as the situation was, it's even clearer that she had her whole future ahead of her. Maybe they could even have rekindled their relationship years later.
But what a horrible society and what horrible laws if they push someone to make that decision. A law that creates fatal victims in a crime with no victims...

Hmm, sounds familiar. Didn't Shakespeare write a play like this?aeterna91 wrote: Thu Aug 06, 2026 2:58 pm a suicide because the relationship between a couple (13F & 20M) wasn't allowed by her parents [...]
In the absence of a clear blueprint, a good imagination is essential.

Nothing. These arrogant people will only believe what they want to, and no amount of evidence will sway them.aeterna91 wrote: Thu Aug 06, 2026 2:58 pm

I get the appeal to hope these people are just misinformed and can change given enough evidence, but my experience with these types is their personality is built from the start to be antagonistic and cruel. It's more of a personality thing and far, far less with media and fear influences. Since it's a personality trait, nothing can fix it except getting enough MAPs and AAMs together who will risk standing up against their abusive ways, possibly having kids, and winning through numbers alone.
Keeping these people out of positions of power would work too, but since these people are so good at influencing others with their charm and outward appeal (people who have with these traits are extremely good at knowing how to manipulate!) people don't know who they really are. If they get appeal from others who think like them and form a group, good luck getting through them.
I do have hope we can win. Being unwavering is a huge help. These people love to see us submitting, surrendering to them and groveling at their feet. They live for this, if not MAPs. someone else, even children. If we refuse to let them beat us down and focus on erasing the stigma by getting truly fearful and well meaning but misinformed folks on our side, then we might see more progress.
I also think being unapologetic will work. These people are that way by nature, so if we can develop a tough enough skin to withstand their toxicity and venom, and encouraging youth to do the same, showing them that not all adults are scary like the ones they're raised by or hear about on the news, they might be willing to be on our side. With as toxic as these people are it's going to be a very hard fight, but I do believe revolutions can happen.
I did recently read a comment that read that stated "We need to make you guys afraid again." This to me is a sure fire sign these people ARE afraid of us winning, feel we ARE winning, and want US to be the fearful ones "again". I think that is why our antagonists are fighting SO HARD currently. Desperate to keep their "good guy" image and power, they're terrified of losing their positions. They know we'll win and they're in a scramble to stop it. So their desperation is already a good sign that we're heading in the right direction as far as I'm concerned!
