https://www.brianribbon.com/home/the-ni ... e-at-nightRead any marketing material by the NCMEC, and you'd be forgiven for thinking they spend all day wading through horrific images of children being violently abused. The 'charity' and its cousins, like Canada's Cybertip and the UK's Internet Watch Foundation, have a financial motivation to make you believe this. Their governments, likewise, benefit from a 'threat' that allows them to pass increasingly draconian laws but can never be verified under threat of imprisonment. It's a convenient state of affairs for the powers that be.
The kind editors of Yesmap Wiki have long been working to dispel many of the claims of such charities. So have I, both here and on Mu. Evidence indicates that the vast majority of images are now generated by AI or produced by minors themselves, rather than an adult recording themself engaging in criminalized conduct with a child. And according to an anonymous source who recently shared a guest blog on this very site, even criminalized images depicting AMSC are typically nothing like how the charities describe them.
You may think the NCMEC and their friends would dislike our dissenting commentary... and it seems you might be right.

The nightmare image keeping the NCMEC awake at night...
Re: The nightmare image keeping the NCMEC awake at night...
It's bizarre how many resources they want to waste on these things. It shows, in my opinion, just how unserious they are.
CSAM, as they call it, is meant to be one of the worst things in existence. Its very being constitutes a charge of abuse every time someone simply looks at it. People talk about it as if it almost has this mythical aura where interacting with it continually damages the soul of the people involved in it. Seriously dangerous stuff.
Fortunately, we have units specializing in taking this stuff down. It's a super serious job. That's why I'm going to waste those units' time by submitting 200+ reports about... a clothed child, and a drawn child. Resources that could be getting used on investigating the "real" stuff, being diverted towards a meme with a girl you can find on google images.
If I were to genuinely believe something was harmful, it would be downright insidious of me to be wasting limited valuable resources like that. Either these people don't really believe that CSAM is all that dangerous, or they're evil bastards wiling to constrict resources for a cause they think is doing good. Not a good look either way.

They lie to get money.
I'm currently researching APLE in Cambodia... and that story is even crazier.
