Trend of using the term "CSAM"

I notice nowadays people dont refer to pornography involving children as child pornography anymore, they use the term "child sexual abuse material" (CSAM) because they claim that children cannot consent to sexual acts or act in pornography, so therefore its not pornography but sexual abuse.

The term "child pornography" was used all the time before and nobody was offended by the usage of the term, it was used in research papers and books, even on Wikipedia there is an article about child pornography.

Yet it seems like most people refrain from using the term CP on social media, for example on Reddit, I only ever see people use the term CSAM and not CP.

It shows that hysteria about pedophilia has escalated and eventually you will be accused of being a pedophile if you use the term "child porn". What do you think about this? Also, who decided that "child pornography" was offensive and it should be referred to as sexual abuse material instead?

I think ordinary people still call it CP. CSAM is more legal/official maybe. Maybe because they can define it to include whatever they like including things that arent true porn.

I think the argument that porn implies it was consensual is wrong because porn has never meant that.

It's because there's less cp being made but there are many groups (LEA, charities etc) that have become dependent on it for their income.

There was a lot of cp, there's been more and more money poured into clamping down on cp and it has been effective. Keep creating a panic around cp while demanding more money to tackle the problem, and the cash flows in freely, it's practically an industry now. But then you reduce the problem and the money reduces with it.

So two paths remain open.

1. Reduce the spend, downsize departments and organisations, put in place pay freezes.

2. Alternatively, redefine the problem to make it bigger, create a broader market. CP was images and video with children engaged in sexual activities, then it's nudity, then it's clothed but making suggestive poses, then it's artwork with kids in, then it's AI images and text, now in the UK it's legal adults that look young.

Broaden the definition, make the circle bigger, keep the cash flowing. But you can't argue that this other stuff is cp so you change the term, CSAM which is suitably open ended that it can keep widening. Sooner or later, nativity plays and historic pictures of a naked baby Jesus in a crib will be enough to get arrested.

Funnily enough, I've seen some anti-porn feminists on Reddit actually have the opposite take and insist "CP" should be used because porn implies abuse and a lack of consent, to them at least. So they want to use the term not because they're pro-pedophilia or pro-contact, but because they're anti porn, and porn being associated with child sexual abuse is correct in their worldview.

Basically the discourse revolves entirely around whether you think "porn" should have positive, neutral, or negative connotation. If you're anti-pedophilia and positive/neutral on porn, you use CSAM to distinguish wholesome consensual porn from awful bad evil "abuse material". If you're anti-pedophilia and anti-porn you use "CP" because porn is bad and child abuse is bad. If you're pro-pedo and pro-porn, you also use CP, because porn is either neutral or positive.
