Thoughts on this? I think overall it is a pretty good law in what is otherwise a very flawed country. As long as kids aren't being forced into marriages I see this as a win. Crazy to think that it is Iraq that is starting to change the law for the better and not "progressive" nations. The people online saying this law "legalizes child rape" are insane, but what else is new?

I too see it as a positive development, insofar as it'll provide some girl-lovers in Iraq a legal sanction to pursue their relationship with their young friend, even if it's within a marital context.

Just about the responses I expected. Not showing an ounce of concern for the high probability of rampant sexual exploitation (and yes, rape) that this would allow in Iraq (as if it's not already happening). How you could think this is anything other than an attempt to further objectify and control women in their backwards culture is baffling. This proposal clearly wasn't written up with youth rights in mind. But I guess anything goes as long as you guys get your way.

For you all adult-minor sexual contact regardless of circumstances counts as "rape", "objectification" (whatever that even means), and "child sexual exploitation" anyway, so there's no argument to be had with you anyway.stropa wrote: ↑Tue Nov 12, 2024 3:10 am Just about the responses I expected.
