I’m going to be a registered pedophile!!

G’day all,

Been a while lol, so I got bad news that I’m going on the sex offender registry as a registered pedophile.

A little background why, so I got a knock on the door by the cops and they took my phone for a couple of weeks so they can do an investigation, I just got it back yesterday.

They told me that they are pressing charges and that they want me to be a registered pedophile once they finalise the charges next week, I won’t be doing time in prison but they going to register me as a pedophile instead so I can get appropriate help.

So sometimes next week I’ll find out the charges and do paperwork to be a registered pedophile.

Keep me in your prayers and thoughts as I go through this difficult period of time.

Sorry to hear this, but surely it doesn't work like that? You can only be placed on the sex offense registry if you've been convicted of a relevant crime.

Do not sign anything you don't fully understand. Do not believe the explanation the cops give you.

Did they use that exact wording? That you must register as a pedophile?
I've never heard of that before. It's not a crime to simply be a pedophile.
If that is the case we must seriously fight against this misuse of language before it spreads further.

Hey all,

In NSW Australia the police can have a court order without me attending here what is says:

“ Yes, police can apply to the court to add someone to the Child Protection Register (CPR) without going to court. The CPR is also known as the Child Sex Offender Register”

So basically yes the police has the right to place pedophiles on the child sex offender registry but they need to apply for it and I don’t need to go to court, they can just apply without the suspect attending court for it.

So yeah.

If I refused to sign the paperwork I could potentially be put behind bars if I refused to sign the paperwork.

Yes I did disclose somethings to my psychiatrist but that was like a couple of years ago and the police hasn’t done anything since then, but they took my phone just a couple of weeks ago and they haven’t told me what my charges are just yet, I find out next week to know my charges what they gonna put on me.

I did get legal advice, the lawyer agree with the police to put me on the registry instead of doing time and court proceedings due to my disability and mental illnesses.

The lawyer going come and explain the process and condition when I sign the paperwork so I can understand what is required of me being a registered pedophile.

I’ll keep you all posted about it and the charges that they going to charge me with.

It’s better this way rather than going through the court system and being sent to prison.

Wait a minute! How the hell does this happen? Okay, I think it is good that you will be looking through this with a lawyer but maybe you should try a different lawyer. I would frankly want the chance to defend myself, And do you recall having dome anything to children? I ask of you not to answer that on here but if you have not, I think you should fight this.

The Australian register is not as onerous as most US states. For a start they don't call it a "sex offender register" but a "child protection register". Just by the name it feels a little less punitive.

It's not public, there are just requirements to report to the police.

Class 1 offences include:

• murder of a child
• any offence that involves sexual intercourse with a child, including outside of Australia
• some offences of sexual abuse of a child, such as persistent sexual abuse.

Class 2 offences include:

• manslaughter of, or causing serious harm to, a child
• acts of indecency
• procuring or grooming a person under 16 for unlawful sexual activity
• kidnapping or abduction
• promoting child prostitution or benefiting from it in any way, including taking part
• sexual offences against children that happened overseas.

I'm not sure where "admitting to watching PIM" fits in there... Make sure you find a good lawyer and check thoroughly with them.
