I think it's an interesting and overlooked subject, how SJWs like the LGBT movement and women's rights, etc. view the issue of age of consent in various countries. Obviously, they're not on our side, and you sometimes hear them protest that AoC is "too low" in certain countries, particularly when it's 14 or lower.
So let's just assume that they have a fixed standard on that it simply shouldn't be lower, and that they don't view it as a rights issue in any way, other than "protecting children". What about the other extreme, is there any case when they would protest AoC as being too HIGH?!?
What if it was 20, 22 or even 25 in some country, would that be enough to make them protest? Would they then suddenly realize that it's an issue that overwhelmingly affects LGBT people and teens with other social problems?
Alright, so let's just say that they're okay with any AoC between 15 and 18. That's neither too low or too high for them. But why are they okay with the difference? Do they really just don't care about the "Schrödinger's pedophile" situation where the same act would be perfectly fine in some countries and a henious crime in others, just because of the arbitrary choice of age limit?
Why don't they advocate for say, 16 or 15 in every country in the world? Is it just not big enough of an issue, coupled with the risk of being seen as pro-pedophile if they started showing any opinions about it?
And finally, of course, why that specific age, be it 18, 16, 14 or whatever - there should just be a reason, right? Has anybody gotten any of them to answer that question, or is it just too taboo for them to say anything about?

Re: SJWs and AOC
Unfortunately a lot of otherwise intelligent people's thinking just shuts down when it comes to this topic. I have seen some progressives agree to an Age of Consent of 16, but even while doing so they rarely have a concrete reason, just "it seems about right". 16 is the global standard, although there are countries above and below. How that came to be I'm not really sure. I guess they were trying to set it at an age where sex is already fairly common so that they didn't end up criminalizing too many people's actions.
Unfortunately anti-sex movements are looking to increase the amount of criminalization in society, so it is possible that there will be more moves to increase it. People don't realize that laws aren't just guidelines. Laws are backed up by guns and cages. Guns and cages that destroy lives. Even antis, if they are progressive, should support less punitive measures.

Nature always wins! And Girls are definitely getting more sexually mature, younger.

16 is the average age that puberty ends between boys and girls. It's safe to say you're an adult by then.Fragment wrote: Sat Jul 20, 2024 7:02 am I have seen some progressives agree to an Age of Consent of 16, but even while doing so they rarely have a concrete reason, just "it seems about right".

No. Moreover, I have concerns that when people discover how to bypass aging, look young and live longer, moral panic may again escalate. If a person at the age of 180 will look like a 30 year old, then the idea of the "innocence" of children may again be radically strengthenedAtosW wrote: Fri Jul 19, 2024 10:27 pm What if it was 20, 22 or even 25 in some country, would that be enough to make them protest?
