Dothan man arrested, accused of sexually assaulting child he met on Snapchat

WASHINGTON CO., Fla. (WTVY) - A Dothan man was arrested on charges that he sexually assaulted a minor he met on Snapchat, the Washington County Sheriff’s Department said on Monday.

24-year-old Alexander John Mauldin was arrested after traveling to meet a minor for sex, law enforcement said.

The victim, who remains unnamed because of her age, said an unknown man sent her a friend request on Snapchat.

After accepting the request, the victim said Mauldin began making plans to travel to Florida.

“I can’t stress enough for parents to monitor their child’s social media apps daily,” said Sheriff Kevin Crews.

According to law enforcement, the victim and Mauldin had discussed their ages.

Mauldin was arrested in Dothan on Friday and extradited to Washington County.

He is held on charges of Sexual Assault of a Person under the Age of 18 and Obscene Communication-Travel to Meet after Use of Computer to Lure a Child.
