Imagine a world, maybe 50 or 100 years in the future. IVF technology has developed and the costs have come down dramatically, so the presence of heterosexual intercourse is no longer necessary to further the species.
Furthermore, imagine that feminism has stagnated and the societal position of men and women is as stratified as it is today, maybe even worse, with men having a clear power imbalance over women. There is obviously the physical and size difference. But there is also a difference in terms of financial power and access to the upper spheres of society.
Now let’s imagine that in such a society it is decided that women aren’t able to fully consent to sex with men because of the power imbalance. Heterosexual intercourse is outlawed and treated on par with rape. Homosexual intercourse, as intercourse between equals, remains legal.
If we had such a society then maybe, FINALLY, straight teleiophiles would be understand what it's like to be a MAP. How many of THEM would be able to stay clean without breaking the law?
(This might actually be a really interesting premise for a novel. I wonder how many people would be too dense to see it for the allegory it is?)

This is a good exercise every straight teleiophile should, and can do quite easily, because empathy is a prevalent trait in humans.Fragment wrote: Sat Feb 15, 2025 8:59 am Heterosexual intercourse is outlawed and treated on par with rape. Hey dear "normal" visitor, yes, you that are reading that: think, imagine how your life will be...
When society judges without understanding, it silences hearts that yearn for connection.

The only thing I know is that there will never be a heaven in hell, and any attempt to make one will always come at the cost of the undesirable and unfortunate. I've experienced it personally, and it feels like an eternal winter where a few are kept warm around a fire, but there is only so much room.

Are you familiar with Peter Singer's concept of the expanding circle?Black Mirror wrote: Sat Feb 15, 2025 12:15 pm The only thing I know is that there will never be a heaven in hell, and any attempt to make one will always come at the cost of the undesirable and unfortunate. We, as humans, have found ways to seat more and more people around the fire. I'm not very optimistic that there will be a lot of change during my lifetime. But I am optimistic that, eventually, there will be enough seats that even we will be welcome (though that might well come after intelligent animals like octopuses, dolphin and chimpanzees are granted the right to vote...The central tenet of the book is that over the course of human history, people have expanded the circle of beings whose interests they are willing to value similarly to their own. Originally that circle would have been self, family and tribe, but over time it grew to encompass all other humans.

I am not familiar with the concept, but it's an interesting idea. I hope one day we can feel that warmth.

Re: Imagine
Yeah, this is a good idea for a dystopian fiction novel or film. And I generally think the best allegory isn't too obvious, so I would not worry about audiences not getting the point straight away. If it's a good story that achieves mainstream popularity, it would open a lot of interesting discussions. And once somebody figures out the metaphor, it will probably spread by word of mouth (or social media, these days), to anyone who didn't get the point on initial viewing. In fact, maybe that's the reaction we'd want. That 'Whoah, mind blown' reaction.Fragment wrote: Sat Feb 15, 2025 8:59 am [...] in such a society it is decided that women aren’t able to fully consent to sex with men because of the power imbalance. In the absence of a clear blueprint, a good imagination is essential.

Re: Imagine
I mean, I feel like I don't have to imagine that hard. There were undoubtedly tons of such marginalized people back in the days that fornication and adultery were criminally prosecuted, among other forms of deviant sexuality. Of course, this was also back in the days that society was convinced that women in general were too pure and innocent for sexual desire.
But despite this well-documented era in history as well as its contract with other societies of the world at the time which were much more sexually permissive, people still aren't seeing the bigger picture.

Re: Imagine
Let me go even further. This is entirely possible with two scientific breakthroughs (which are sure to happen in the future): the first is a new milestone in IVF technology, allowing both homosexual parents to conceive their own children, and the second is the technology of artificial womb, which allows (same-sex) couples to do without using the services of a stranger woman.Fragment wrote: Sat Feb 15, 2025 8:59 am Imagine a world, maybe 50 or 100 years in the future. I can't say how this will affect heterosexual relationships, but there is some concern about increasing moral panic towards intergen relationships (as usual). In addition, I assume that an artificial womb may not fully reproduce all the factors for the birth of homosexuals, that on condition of complete refusal of natural pregnancy, may lead to a decline in the population of homosexual people.
Men hate each other because they fear each other. They fear each other because they don’t know each other, and they don’t know each other because they don’t communicate with each other.
