I watched a review recently for the new Alien: Earth series that went into depth about the cast, creatures, back story, film production etc but it raised the point that it's inevitable that it'll receive complaints about the lead who is a human like machine with the consciousness of a young girl. The plot goes that a young girl terminally ill with cancer gets the opportunity to try a pioneering experiment to upload her mind to a synthetic body. The procedure is a success so you have an adult looking female with a young girls mind inside. Her advanced abilities means she is employed to go and lead a team to deal with the alien threat.
It was pointed out that we live in a crazy world today where it's inevitable that some people will try to get the show pulled on the grounds that there's a child doing adult things and children can't do adult things. It was a small part in a long review but it was interesting to see that it is recognised as an issue outside of the world of maps. The level of hysteria is visible to people in general, not just maps.
Keep that in mind when considering advocacy and activism.
Non-maps recognising the hysteria in society
Re: Non-maps recognising the hysteria in society
A 6 year old in an adult's body is wrong because they're a child.
An adult who looks 6 years old is wrong because they look like a child.
In both cases they are fiction and no actual children were hurt.
You have a very optimistic take on the fact that the reviewer was predicting backlash. The very fact that the hysteria has reached the point where there is backlash about that kind of thing shows the scale of the ever encroaching tsunami we're facing.

I'm not saying that all scoutmasters are pedophiles. I might be saying that the best ones are.

Yes and that was my view. A movie critic reviewing a new show that contains something as unoffensive as a fictitious child saved from death in the body of an adult looking android predicting an inevitable backlash by at least some people who see that harmful and abusive. I wonder if the movie Big if released today would have some people complaining about it supporting abuse, I mean a young boy in an adults body.Fragment wrote: Thu Jun 12, 2025 2:25 pm A 6 year old in an adult's body is wrong because they're a child.

I just found it interesting that the observation was made since it's another example of the stupidity of todays hysteria impacting the world beyond the issues of maps.
