https://www.brianribbon.com/home/chat-c ... -for-powerBack in 2022, the European Commissioner for Home Affairs proposed a Regulation to Prevent and Combat Child Sexual Abuse. One of the key purposes of this proposal was to bug the messengers of the entire EU public with government-approved spyware. Known as 'Chat Control' colloquially, the regulation failed to pass in 2024, but a new iteration of it is now back on the table.

That's the most upsetting thing about this, the people already said no but they keep pushing it again and again until it passes.

There are clearly hidden forces pushing hard to make it happen.Liyowo wrote: Sat Sep 06, 2025 3:03 pm That's the most upsetting thing about this, the people already said no but they keep pushing it again and again until it passes.
I wonder who they are?

I don't know but I'm really not liking this coordinated slide towards authoritarianism.BLueRibbon wrote: Sun Sep 07, 2025 10:35 amThere are clearly hidden forces pushing hard to make it happen.Liyowo wrote: Sat Sep 06, 2025 3:03 pm That's the most upsetting thing about this, the people already said no but they keep pushing it again and again until it passes.

At least it's nice to see how even the top comment here understands that pedophilia is used as a scapegoat: https://www.reddit.com/r/europe/comment ... /?sort=top

I just saw that topic too. Lots of pushback against the idea.Liyowo wrote: Tue Sep 09, 2025 11:19 amI don't know but I'm really not liking this coordinated slide towards authoritarianism.BLueRibbon wrote: Sun Sep 07, 2025 10:35 amThere are clearly hidden forces pushing hard to make it happen.Liyowo wrote: Sat Sep 06, 2025 3:03 pm That's the most upsetting thing about this, the people already said no but they keep pushing it again and again until it passes.

Overreach always leads to reaction.
Because overreach is itself a reaction, and always happens when something behind the scenes is not working as it should.
Wait for people to react - give them time, in particular, wait for the Farage wave thing, i.e. Financial Crisis + Public desolation and anger.
Seeing what looks like a "slide towards authoritarianism" would lead me to conclude that begrudging acceptance of the non-offending MAP, and an assault against the idea that sexual content harms kids, is potentially within sight in the next few decades.

'Child safety' seems to be immune.Jim Burton wrote: Tue Sep 09, 2025 2:41 pm Overreach always leads to reaction.

If kitchen knives were criminalized to prevent stabbings, people would go insane.
If cars were banned to avoid accidents, everyone would lose their shit.
But when it comes to 'child safety', everything is acceptable, except to the dirty child molesters who oppose it.
The oppressors have found a cheat code.

It's not new. It's one of the four horsemen of the infopocalypse:
Not to say this doesn't suck. It's awful that they get to push this year after year after being rejected so many times.

like so many other "computer hacker" items, as a tool for the "Four Horsemen": drug-dealers, money-launderers, terrorists, and pedophiles.
