Back in 2022, the European Commissioner for Home Affairs proposed a Regulation to Prevent and Combat Child Sexual Abuse. One of the key purposes of this proposal was to bug the messengers of the entire EU public with government-approved spyware. Known as 'Chat Control' colloquially, the regulation failed to pass in 2024, but a new iteration of it is now back on the table.

I don't know but I'm really not liking this coordinated slide towards authoritarianism.

Because overreach is itself a reaction, and always happens when something behind the scenes is not working as it should.

Wait for people to react - give them time, in particular, wait for the Farage wave thing, i.e. Financial Crisis + Public desolation and anger.

Seeing what looks like a "slide towards authoritarianism" would lead me to conclude that begrudging acceptance of the non-offending MAP, and an assault against the idea that sexual content harms kids, is potentially within sight in the next few decades.

'Child safety' seems to be immune.

If kitchen knives were criminalized to prevent stabbings, people would go insane.

If cars were banned to avoid accidents, everyone would lose their shit.

But when it comes to 'child safety', everything is acceptable, except to the dirty child molesters who oppose it.
