A 29-year-old has dodged jail after being found with 18,223 indecent images of children. Jared Clarke, of Broad Street, Newcastle, said he had the images ‘for drawing purposes’.

Police attended his address in the early hours of December 7 2023 and seized two computer towers and an expansive portable drive containing child sexual abuse material. On the devices were 281 Category A images - the worst kind - 532 Category B images, and 17,410 Category C images that were downloaded over a 12-month period to December 2023.

Tomas Quinn, prosecuting, told Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court that during his interview Clarke told police that he found the material ‘disgusting’. He denied being a paedophile or having a sexual interest in children.
