If she had claimed she was being molested, she would have escaped with her life.

An October 2024 police report states that an officer responded to a QuikTrip for a call for service from the manager, who told police that a 9-year-old girl had come into the store and said she ran away from home "because her stepmother was abusing her."

The child was Rebekah Baptiste, who was later murdered in 2025. Her father and her father's girlfriend are facing charges related to Rebekah's death.

The police report states that Rebekah was then taken to Phoenix Children's Hospital because of bruises on her body. The police report also states that the stepmother, Anisia Woods, was calling the Phoenix Police to report the child as missing.

The Department of Child Safety was contacted, the police report states.

The police report states that Rebekah told police she ran away from home because Woods had "thought she was pretending to sleep, and she got in trouble."

Rebekah told police that Woods made her run laps, do planks, and do wall sits as her "discipline." Rebekah also said that Woods hit her with a brush on the backs of her hand, and the police report states Rebekah did have "faint bruising and marks on the backs of both her hands."

Rebekah also told police she had been hit with a brush and a belt on her feet, and showed police bruising and red marks on both her feet.

Police asked Rebekah if this was something that happened one time or more than one time, and Rebekah told the officer, "it happened a lot," documents state.

Documents state that Rebekah said she and her brothers both got in trouble, and she said "she gets in trouble more frequently and 'harder' than they do."
