This act sparked public outrage and mass protests, undermining Fidesz’s image as a champion of traditional values ​​and protection of the family. Following this scandal, Orbán did not defend Novák and proposed constitutional changes to prevent future pardons from being granted to people convicted of pedophilia crimes. Novák was therefore forced to announce his resignation in February 2024, together with Justice Minister Judit Varga, who had countersigned the presidential pardon.
