BRAZIL: 51 people arrested in operation against the dissemination of pedophile material

Brazil's Federal Police arrested 51 people on Wednesday during a vast operation against the dissemination of paedophile material on the Internet, according to a preliminary report. The 750 officers involved in Operation Terabyte are also serving 141 search and seizure warrants across all of Brazil's states, according to a police statement.

The aim of these actions is to identify the abusers, as well as to pursue people suspected of "storing and sharing" a large number of sexual images and videos featuring children and adolescents.

The operation also had the support of the Domestic Investigation Agency of the US Embassy in the country.

In a statement, the Federal Police warned parents about the "importance of monitoring and guiding their children in the virtual world" to protect them from risks.

Between December 2023 and August 2024, officers served 1,291 pending arrest warrants against sexual abusers, demonstrating their "commitment" to combating these crimes, according to the police.
