I think this is important to highlight, especially cases of rape and people's reaction to them, because it highlights that people's view on minor sexuality is inconsistent.

In the UK, there's controversy over the sentencing of two 15 year olds and a 14 year old in a rape case, and later a 13 year old boy. In general, people are upset that the boys weren't sent to jail. The Prime Minister has even commented on this and has urged a review. These boys are below the age of consent though, which allegedly means they don't really understand sex and its consequences... so why does throwing them in an adult jail make sense?

You can't simultaneously be capable of fully acknowledging the harms of a topic and masterminding a plot to take advantage of other people, while at the exact same time be told you're too immature to handle the complexities of the topic to such a degree that anyone that involves you in it is committing the worst act imaginable.

The double standard is truly shocking. I don't know how people make sense of it.

You can't consent to sex, which is to say that you can't make a rational choice to engage in sexual intimacy with someone; but rational agency is required in order to be held accountable for moral failings (a being with no rational agency is amoral, they cannot coherently be thought of as deserving punishment or reward) so if you're seen as morally responsible for a crime the justification can only be that you made a rational choice to commit it, fully understanding what you were doing, the meaning behind it, possible consequences etc. You can't consent to sex because you can't comprehend its meaning, but you can be held morally responsible for sex crimes because you understood what you were doing and the meaning in the sex you were forcing on someone. LOL. I'm not at my most articulate today but any fool can see how this is completely self-contradicting.

I've never understood the rationale behind selectively charging juveniles as adults based on the severity of the crime. If you're going to be making exceptions, shouldn't it be on the basis of age-atypical cognitive maturation or genius? Exceptions aren't determined through some kind of cognitive testing but on the basis of how much anger a crime invokes. It makes no sense. Try them all as adults and eliminate statutory rape laws or treat them as amoral beings consistently (mind you, I don't think that a lack of rational agency legitimizes the concept of statutory rape but at least apply the idea behind it consistently).
