This is what I realized as well and it was like I could finally see clearly. They think it's wrong because they think sex (for pleasure) is inherently selfish, dirty, and sinful - and they are actually
projecting the guilt
they feel ever since we did away with the Christian rule of sex only being for reproduction within marriage in favor of just "consent".
Basing the morality soley on consent allows people to do things that were seen as highly immoral (premarital sex, promiscuity, polygamy, homosexuality, sodomy, interracial sex, incest). Society wants to have as much sex as they wish to have, in any way they want without being judged, and to relinquish their guilt they say "yeah, we may be depraved selfish hedonists with no standards for ourselves - but hey, at least we don't fuck kids!" That's why they're so against it. Keeping kids "innocent" allows them to feel like they still have morals - it allows them to feel justified in their own degeneracy.
So they come up with all of this nonsense trying to hide the fact that what they really mean to say is that sex for pleasure is wrong. You can see it in their arguments. If sex was truly a positive and harmless thing (which it is), then it would be the same as doing any other physical activity with them. It's all Fruedian and you can see right through it.
This is why I have a strong confidence that society will eventually fully accept this. First for adolescents, and then inevitably (in the very very far future) pre-adolescents.
If society is to continue to progress it will have to examine its guilt regarding sex at some point. They will start to see sex for what it is - not a distinct category of behavior, but an
extension of every day things that humans do to connect with people: Hugging is sex, laughing together is sex, affectionate eye contact is sex, holding hands is sex, a warm genuine smile is sex. Sex is a way to connect with people.
Once society starts to relieve itself of its guilt, it will in turn lead to the reframing of all sexual taboos as irrational.

! Only thing I disagree with is pre adolescent sex being accepted in the “distant future”. Society went from thinking that black people were subhumans that were intellectually inferior and that interacial relationships were wrong and that black people didnt deserve any legal agency and should be legally owned by white people for their “protection” to having a black president in the span of about a century, give or take. Some peoples grandmas are older than that. Gay people went from being incarcerated for gay sex and being mentally ill in the dsm to being a legally protected government class in less than half a century. I dont see how minors gaining legal agency and not being legally owned by adults for their “protection” and not being seen as intellectually inferior or subhumans and intergenerational relationships being good and Maps no longer being incarcerated and being removed as mentally ill from the dsm 5 would take any longer. But your completely right anyways, it eventually will fall just like everything else in history. If black people get legal rights and are no longer property to white people for “protection” and to “teach obedience”, minors will get legal rights and will no longer be property to adults for “protection” and to “teach obedience”.
