The courts arrested him and charged him. But because of his age he was granted house arrest.
The Corrientes courts charged and ordered the arrest of Sixto “Yacaré” Fernández, 77 years old, who led the Liberal Party for almost two decades, part of the ruling coalition in the province led by Gustavo Valdés. The political leader is accused of being part of a network of sexual exploitation and pedophilia.
Judicial sources said that on the accused's phones "more than 400 photos and a hundred videos with sexual content involving minors and adults were found." Among the victims in the case are two teenagers from families in Ituzaingó, a city in the north of the province.
The sources in the case revealed that "among the victims there is a 13-year-old girl and a teenager, both members of vulnerable families in Ituzaingó." According to the investigation, the leader contacted the girls to ask them for images "of different intensity and high sexual content."
For now, the prosecution has charged Fernandez with two cases, but it is estimated that there could be more victims and that other people may have participated in the abuse.
Because of his age, Fernandez has the benefit of house arrest.
The investigation began in March of this year when a 28-year-old woman filed a complaint at the Women and Minors Police Station. She said that she met Fernandez through her mother, who worked for the Liberal Party.
When she was 14, he began to invite her for rides in his car.
The leader later gave her a cell phone to keep in touch. The victim said that on one occasion he took her to a motel on National Route 12. There he asked her to take off her clothes. He took photos of her and gave her money.
The complainant said that shortly afterward he began a relationship with a schoolmate. On one of the trips to the motel he learned that the teenager had already had sex. And then, according to the investigation, he demanded sexual access.
The girl then met a young man who would become her partner and the father of her children. Fernández reappeared and, according to her story, offered her a job in politics, which included sexual encounters. According to the complaint, the minor was forced to have sexual relations with another party official.
